CHOOSING A STONE
It is important to open your heart to the stones. Trust your intuition and your feelings. Don’t use your mind to explain or rationalize them. You may wish to have a stone that is tuned to your zodiac sign, but don’t limit yourself to only that stone. Let your higher self guide you to the stone that you need now because of its particular color or properties. As you ponder your choice, one or two stones may call your attention strongly. These are the ones that need to go with you.
CLEANSING THE STONE
Once you have chosen a stone (actually it chooses you), it is important that you clean it, wash and purify it. Because of its high sensitivity, it carries vibrations and other imprints which need to be cleansed and purified, especially if you have received a stone from someone in your family who has been ill or who has passed on. The stones cannot harm you, but the thoughts of others, which are attached to the stone, can cause harm.
If you are cleaning the crystal quarts, you may wash it in water to which you have added sea salt. However, for all other stones, I recommend that you cleanse them in water, earth or fire. You can leave the stone under running water for six to eight hours, for a really thorough cleansing. Or you may bury it in earth overnight, and then rinse it off. You may wish to cleanse a stone by fire – and putting the stone in the flame of a candle is the easiest way to do this. (please don’t burn you hands in this process) You may even wish to have your stone re-polished, especially if it has become dull or lost its luster. Another way to clean and purify any stone is to put it in a large cluster of quarts for several days. It will revive its energy from the contact.
After you have washed your stone, put it in direct sunlight. Your stone will be very appreciative of this care. The sun is a great source of energy and purification. It is necessary to do this process regularly. Keep clean thoughts to protect yourself from negative thoughts that come back to us like boomerangs. That is the reason why so many stories or myths about unlucky stones developed. It is not the stone but the thoughts and the intent that have carried these negative energies. It is the consciousness of the wearer that has contributed to these tales. Give your self an affirmation that your stone is now clean of impure thoughts, that it is ready to help you with its light, that you embrace it as your ally or power nature friend. Thank it, use it, wear it, love it! Know that you and your stone are fulfilling an evolutionary cycle.
